Tango In The Rain

by t.a. faust

the music draws us
pulls us from our other lives
gathering a crowd

scattered chairs, tables
laughter bubbling among friends
perfectly social

the dancers do so
they swirl around the courtyard
smiling one and all

latin memories
reminiscence of romance
a dream of dreaming

all ages dancing
young, old, experienced, not
brought forth with music

as the band changes
one song to another beat
pitter patter, rain

some scatter quickly
others stand strong, it will pass
but downpour begins

two dancers return
a red umbrella held high
the dance continues

alone they spin now
proud and utterly romance
smiling with their hearts

"one final song friends"
musicians calling an end
with scattered applause

the couple dances
rain slowing to a drizzle
feet slowing in time

as the crowd departs
still laughing, still with big smiles
they remain waiting

a red umbrella
marks the moment as it rests
the future begins
